Desktop crashed. Almost nothing is functioning. I have GEdit open with some files that need to be saved, but the GEdit window is blank and all menu/toolbars are missing. Is there any way to issue a command that will save all files?

The only desktop functionality I have is the ability to switch to a terminal (Ctrl-Alt-F1), and the system menu (shutdown, etc.).

Hoping I can save my work in GEdit before restarting. Any ideas?

Ubuntu 9.04 64bit

Boot a live CD and grab what you need using that
I think I see you in openSUSE sometimes?

Good luck.

edit: Sorry they are open and you need to save them?!
Yikes!

Yes, I run openSUSE on my laptop. Love it.
