View Full Version : [ubuntu] Cloning a laptop

I'm setting up Ubuntu on about 30 laptops at the school I teach at (wiping Windoze from each HD and installing Ubuntu afresh!)

Each laptop will be a 'standalone', rather than all of them being linked to a server. How do I go about cloning (users, installed packages, security settings, etc.) from one laptop to another, as I don't want to have to carry it out 30 times over!

Thanks in advance,

Andy

Click on Testimonials on the left and you'll see a lot like these:

Clone 20 PCs with a 16GB image using multicasting in 55 minutes

Cloned 1084 systems with DRBL

Cheers for the link. I'll try and set it up when I get into work tomorrow. It looks like exactly what I need!

Yep, Clonezilla is the way to go. If youre going for a fresh, default install, you might consider simply burning 30 cdrw disks. That way you dont have to set up a DRBL server (required for multi cast).
