I would like to install XP to /dev/sda5,sda6 being karmic.
(I may have a dying dvd burner as was unable to install it yesterday but..)
Can somebody please have a look and point me in a safe direction?
I got in a dreadful mess with grub after attempting to upgrade to Lucid,I needed to reinstall anyway, appreciate your experience here greatly.
Will I be able to dual boot or should I just start from scratch?
Thanks heaps(learning,trying)

Windows has to be on a primary partition. or sda1 thru sda4. And have the boot flag or active partition in windows.

Windows usually wants to be installed to a primary partition. You have none but sda2, and sda5 is logical. I rather doubt Windows will consent to that.

Thankyou.
I take that as a "no".
In that case I'll be installing a new dvd rom first.
Windows went thru' the motions, got to the reboot stage to begin installation and stalled, blinking at me.
