Hi everyone,

My name is Thiago, I am from Brazil and I'm new in this forum. I did not find a place to say "hi", so i am saying it here: "Hi everyone" :P. My english is not that good, so please forgive me, if I say something wrong.

I'm asking here too, because I had a problem during the instalation. I've tried to install the ubuntu 9.10 64bit in my pc (I don't know if it's necessary to say the configuration of my hardware, but otherwise I've put it in PS in the end of the message).
The installation ocuried everything normal: I've create my user and I've made the partitions, swap, /home, /boot.. and others, but during the process of installation at aroud 66% of it, there was an error. I don't remember exacly what was written in the message, and it was written in portuguese, but it was something about burn the ubuntu's cd too fast. I didn't undertand. So i returned to the windows and i burned it again in another cd, but slower. And i had the same problem. I've arealdy tried do burn it in a dvd. But nothing. What could it be? How do I solve this problem??
I've download the iso file. I thought it can be the problem. Should I download it again?
And can i boot the ubuntu by a pendrive or another flash device? Please I need some help.
Thanks everybody.

Good bye

PS: my hardware:

Core 2quad 2.5ghz,
4 GB ram memory
video card geforce 9500gt 1024mb 128bits
Hard Disk 500GB
motherboard asus

I've looked there. And I know what is the problem. I'm using an old CD-RW to burn the iso and they say that it doesn't work. I just have it. Is a dvd works? because dvds are easier to find to buy, and i think I have someones here. And what about a flash device? Can I boot the system by one of them?

Thanks...

PS:These are some questions that i have not found the answer in that page.

I've looked there. And I know what is the problem. I'm using an old CD-RW to burn the iso and they say that it doesn't work. I just have it.It is strange that they would say that. In general, the CD is a more robust and reliable media than DVD. I have used TDK CD-R for .iso files and it works fine. Results may be different depending on what kind of CD burner you have.
Is a dvd works? because dvds are easier to find to buy, and i think I have someones here. And what about a flash device? Can I boot the system by one of them?In most cases, yes, you can boot from a flash device. If your computer can read and write from and to the flash device, and if your computer's BIOS provides for booting from the flash device, then it should work.

On the system that I am using right now, the BIOS is a bit buggy. This means that the computer will not automatically boot from a plugged in USB flash drive. But if I press the F8 key during boot time then the BIOS offers me a choice of booting from any of the bootable devices including the USB flash drive. So you might need to do something out of the ordinary to your BIOS to get it to boot.

Thanks quadproc and dabl. I could install it. My problem is now solved. I burned the iso with windows 7 standard burner disk, and I've burn it in an old DVD that i've found here. Now it's woks perfectly.
