Case material types pros/cons?

I'm wondering if anyone has any insight into the pros/cons of the different types of materials that cases are made out of. I'm toying with the idea of making my own case and it was suggested that some types of metal would adversely affect the cooling effectiveness.

Pros: Cheap
Cons: Breaks easily
