Hi,

I have just ordered a new Laptop and could do with some reconmendations on HD setup

The Laptop has a 320 gb HD and my current thoughts are:

1. Root - 20-30gb
2. Data - All but 2 gb of the rest
3. Swap - 2gb (probably don't even need this as the Laptop has plenty of Ram

I am looking at having the second Partition as Data rather than mapped as /Home

I am then thinking of creating Sym Links from My Home Directory of Documents, Pictures, Music etc... to Data

I have always had /Home in the past, but on the occassion when I have to-reinstall you have all the config files etc.. from your Apps in /Home which you don't need, so this time I am looking at just a partition that will hold only my Data.

I know I could probably shrink the Root partition down, but as I have plenty of HD space, I would rather give it some space instead of having to move/resize partitions in the future.

Thanks,

Gavin,

I might be wrong here, but as far as I've read, swap should be 1.5x the amount of ram installed. - required for proper suspend/sleep functions.
