Karmic was a bloody nightmare with sound. LOADS of issues, and it's getting in the way of work sometimes.

I'm testing lucid, but on a machine with no speakers. Can anyone tell me how their experiences are with Lucid's sound? Are there any stupid firefox lockups related to flash like Karmic has? Any instances of Skype muting sound on all other applications? I could go on and on, but I am staying with Linux of course. One bad release isn't going to ruin it. But, if Lucid's not fixed in this aspect, I'm going back to Hardy.

Edit: I have to wonder.. how was Ubuntu Studio's 9.10 feedback? As a media OS, I'd think the sound issues would ruin that release.

Also, what are some other somewhat simple OSes to use? I have no problem with learning new things, but I need this laptop in working order and have no time to spend time at something like Arch or Slackware (I have the whole summer for that :)) Don't bother with recommending Fedora, OpenSUSE or Mint; I've had numerous problems with all those. Mint is the same as Ubuntu for glitches.

There is now a Pulse-aware version of Skype. That might help you. But I don't think Ubuntu developers can do much about it if proprietary software developers (remember, Flash and Skype are proprietary, we are not responsible for their suckitude!) write bad code.

I have no problems with Skype or Flash on the other releases of Ubuntu. In fact, Karmic is the only Ubuntu release that I actually had true problems with that weren't my own fault.

I've had every Ubuntu from 7.10 onwards on this laptop. I don't want to downgrade, but if I do I will just use Hardy until Pulse stops causing problem after problem. Or if I find another distro not based on Ubuntu that works for me.

I agree.
audio karmic or audio 9.10 get 250 results.

The drowning, unending flood of bugs goes on...

I, myself am a victim. Karmic maimed my speaker system by cutting off a speaker. Tried everything up to getting backported kernels, nothing helps.

Was this highly looked into during the testing? Because for an LTS release.. if Lucid has these problems, it's going to be unsuccessful.
