Updates and Ubuntu Upgrade

I was advised from the start NOT to run the updates that arrive regularly. In the past when I have ignored this instruction, I ran into loads of trouble with things not working and therefore having to reinstall Ubuntu. So having learnt my lesson, I never run the update manager these days.

I'd be interested to hear the experiences of anyone who has updated Ubuntu from one version to the next.

I've installed every update as it was issued..... No problems (so far)

That was bad advice you must install upgrades as soon as possible after they are issued to keep your sysrtem up to date and fix security and other problems.The only exception is if you upgrade to an alpha or beta release.

My update notice usually arrives in the morning around 6am when I am also on line.
I have always updated a few minutes afterwards. Never had any problems after updating in Ubuntu 8.10. I just upgraded to 9.04, had few kinks to iron out, do like it 100% better than 8.10.
