I upgraded to 10.04 only to have GDM not start on me and the system lock up. I have now re-installed 9.10. I hope when the real release comes out there will not be that problem.

I don't want to go through the hassle of keep re-installing.

Unclear on the concept of a "beta" release, eh? ;)
BTW, bug reports go in Launchpad (https://launchpad.net/ubuntu)

If you don't have separate home make one following this (http://www.psychocats.net/ubuntu/separatehome) guide.

Every time when you upgrade to beta release you can expect some problems. So,when final Lucid is out it should be O.K. but there is no such a thing as 100%.I think it is good to do upgrade with alternate CD,because if something goes wrong you always have CD for fresh install. That is why I suggested separate home. With separate home you will not lose your data % settings.

Even when final release comes to a daylight wait for another two or three weeks if you want to have start without a problem. In the first two-three weeks the biggest number of bugs will be submitted and corrected. Also we must be aware that this is LTS which means it should be very stable and secure and smooth.

I was told it was really stable for a beta release.

Actually I was going to give it a month.

So if I give it to the end of May and then do an online upgrade. You think it should go fine?

I've upgraded to 10.04 and everything seems to be working fine. My question is, when the stable release comes out next week, will I have to install 10.04 again? Or will it update automatically and gradually through synaptic? Or will I need to use the "update-manager -d" option again?

Cheers!

I'll probably wait until the middle of May and upgrade.

You just need to keep updating everyday and you'll be fine.
