I'm trying to compile the latest kernel (-2.6.33-2-candela) on my fresh install of 8.04 LTS. I get an error that seems to reflect and complain about something not matching between version.h and the actual kernel version post compilation of the kernel. I've included a link to a bug on launchpad I created referencing the 3rd party application built by the author of the forum post I linked that includes notes on compiling a kernel. The error I get with the application he built (KernelChecker) and his step by step procedures are exactly the same.

Can anyone point me in the direction of a solid guide / method to PROPERLY building a recent kernel from scratch on Ubuntu 8.04 LTS?

Thanks much!

Your version of kernel-package is outdated. Either you need to update it to the latest version, or use the manual method described here: http://ubuntuforums.org/showpost.php?p=8688831&postcount=1403.
