The Ubuntu community tends to be pretty smart so I thought I'd ask this here:

Several years ago I saw a bit on TechTV where they demoed a water pump for a cooling system that had no moving parts and as a result was virtually completely silent and didn't result in water loss. From what I remember it sounded a lot like the caterpillar engine from "The Hunt for Red October", but I haven't seen or heard of anything since. I found an article (link) (http://www.newscientist.com/article/dn4086-silent-pump-for-watercooled-pcs-developed.html) that dates back to around the same time that I saw the TV bit, but I was wondering if anyone knew what happened to this or if there's a commercial product out there somewhere using this technology.

Thanks

I wonder if you are referring to magnetohydrodynamics? MHD only works on conductive fluids (such as salt water, but not on pure water) and uses the fact that current flowing in the fluid causes a magnetic field which can be manipulated by conventional means.
