Is there a way that I can switch from my current dual-boot setup to having an Ubuntu machine running XP in Virtualbox?
My current setup is XP Home installed before Ubuntu, Ubuntu (koala) in a second partition of about the same as the XP side. I'm really liking this latest Ubuntu- everything seems to work well hardware-wise, and I'm having an easier time customizing and downloading things I'd like to try. I'm having a better experience with Ubuntu than I have previously.
That being said, I've spent so many years in a Windows environment that I'm not ready to completely leave it just yet. I like to have the option of using XP and the windows-only programs I have (Adobe).
In my home, I also have a newer iMac, with XP running in a VMWare virtual machine. I love that setup- it's been working flawlessly for me. XP performance is really very good- no problems whatsoever.
So what I'm hoping for is this: Make a complete backup image of my current XP condition, with all apps and settings- and burn to DVD. I actually don't know how to do this; I have backed up files, but never done a complete image of my install. Any way, I'd then delete the XP partition, giving that space over to Ubuntu. Then re-install XP, (hopefully from the complete backup I made) but this time in Virtualbox. That way, I wouldn't have to re-boot to share files, hardware, etc, between OS's.
I guess I could start completely over again with XP in the virtual box, clean from CD. I don't have anything that I can't reinstall. I guess I could also start over with Ubuntu, for that matter!
But, I'd prefer to leave both OS's the way they are, just move XP to inside Ubuntu. Is this something that can be accomplished RELATIVELY easily?
