View Full Version : [ubuntu] 10.04 Beta 2 64 Bit Live CD ATI error?

Hi all,

I think the video card in my new PC may be giving the live CD some trouble.

It's a ATI Radeon HD 5770 (1GB).

The first couple of purple screens display incorrectly, the ubuntu logo is large and blocky.

Then my monitor goes blank, I have no display where the first install screen should be.

It's not the CD, I've re-downloaded and burnt and the same discs install fine on other machines.

Any ideas on how I can get around this?

I could try the alternate CD of course but I need to do some resizing and aren't sure how easy it'd be without the installer's GUI.

Am I better off waiting for the RC or even removing the video card for the duration of the install?

Thanks in advance.

After some more digging I see I'm far from the only one affected by this; http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1451977

So if anyone has any updates then please reply to the thread above.

Cheers.

This worked for me. Press F6 and check 'nomodeset' from menu see link:

Cheers for the tip but I was able to get my install completed by using a VGA cable, I didn't need to do anything else.

Once completed I installed the restricted ati drivers and now all is fine with a DVI cable.

Annoying to have to do, it works though!
