apt-get instal xserver-xorg-core gdm xfce4

'xorg'' shoud work istead of xserver-xorg-core. Change gdm to 'xdm' if you dont want gdm. 'xfce4-goodies' might be worth installing as well, but its not needed.

What i have seen so far, yes i do !!!! ... Tried xubuntu, but now i'm going to try Debian with Xfce4 .... I take it that installing xfce will install the network-manager etc ?

Many Thanks

Xubuntu is very heavy compared to debain Xfce (or any of the other Xfce distros I've tried).

BTW, you dont have to do command line work to get debian Xfce going- just use the debian Xfce/Lxde install disc.
