View Full Version : Good Linux/OSS Podcasts?

Can anyone recommend any good Linux and/or Open Source Software focused podcast's? I have a new job with a long drive to work everyday.

I have really been listening to the TWIT podcasts and enjoying them but I want something more OSS focused to round out my listening.. (If I hear any more about an ipad ill puke!).. I would prefer something release at least once per week like TWIT stuff.

I have tried:

Novell Open Audio - Pretty good if very enterprise linux focused. Release's are kind of far apart.

FOSS Weekly - Found it to be many weeks of boring shows on (imo) unintresting topics. (the ones on webmin and avahi I thought were good though) I often find that some of the hosts interviewing seem like they have no questions prepared and have no understanding of the software they are featuring.

Ubuntu Fresh Podcast - Seems to be released VERY infrequently.

I think I also tried the linux action show but I admit I didnt give it a fair shake.

Sadly with all the Linux podcasts none seem to consistently put out well researched work that is interesting to listen to. It mostly all seems to be 2-3 guys ranting about things they really don't understand. I found through trial and error that it is not good for my forehead to listen to most of them since it leads me to bang it against the wall screaming "Your premise is wrong.. and you ranted for 30 mins about it. 2 seconds on Google would have done you wonders".

I tend to download single episodes if a specific subject interests me or if they interview someone good (Miguel de Icaza, like him or not, e.g. always is a fun interviewee, full of energy and excitement).

I do dream of the day when we will have a Linux podcast of the same high standard as AstronomyCast or The Skeptics Guide to the Universe.

While not technically Linux podcasts, StackOverflow, Herding Code and Hansel Minutes are all excellent when they have Linux guests on. This happens rarely though but I would encourage people to check it out.

Linux Outlaws (a bit edgy)

And a new one I've been killing time with is "Kernel Panic" most of the guys came from the old Linux Cranks show.

LottaLinuxLinks is different.
