I have a similar problem. I screwed something up, I don't know what. I still can play sound locally, but the devices that I was sharing on the network are no longer broadcast. I checked settings in paprefs and network access to local sound devices is enabled. In addition to this, I now have zero entries under Gnome Sound Preferences / Hardware. Bottom line is that sound devices are no longer being listed locally or over the network. Like the previous post I would like to know how to reset PA to default settings. Is there a way to do this?

Ok, scratch what I said about still being able to play sound. Now I can play no sound what soever. Seems to be a result of now having no devices listed under System/Preferences/Sound/Hardware. How in the world do I get the sound hardware back?
