Solved.... managed to download the driver and that activated the card.

I am a new user. I have installed Ubuntu on an Acer Asprire 3000 Notebook and it works fine in a wired network. However I cannot get it to recognize my wireless card. There is a button on the front of the laptop which activates the card and this works in windows.

When I use the Ubuntu wireless drivers application it says it "Unable to see if hardware is present.", which means, I assume, the card is not turned on. When I press the button, it does not activate the card. I suspect that I need to turn the card on in windows However, I have installed Ubuntu as a stand-alone operating system because all my windows installations cause havoc.

Soooo.... to my question. Will I have to install windows and Ubuntu jointly in order to get the card active? I was hoping not to have to do that. Any advice?

Thanks
