64 bit installation after 32 bit

I have Ubuntu 9.10 32 bit installed on the whole hard disk. Can I install Ubuntu 9.10 64 bit to the same hard disk, with shrinking 32 bit partition and dual boot? Will 64 bit installer handle this properly?
