Ubuntu updates and upgrades

Hi,

Whenever I run 'sudo apt-get update', it takes a lot of time. Doesn't the apt-get package check if the files on the remote machine and on the local machine are the same and then not download the file? If I need to make some configuration changes for the same, please let me know.

Maybe you have some third party repositories that are slow.

eg, Google Chrome installs a repository automatically into your sources.list and it is as slow as treacle. You might have this one, or maybe another ?

You should also check that you are downloading from a server fairly close to you.

I choose the India repository and also the Ubuntu repository is the one which is downloading everytime. It's almost 5MB.
