It's a version of the internet that runs as a much higher speed than the internet we use now.

I thought it meant sever3 on that domain. Or it could mean level 3 bandwidth or something?

I guess they have multiple web servers, and www3 is the "name" of one particular server.

If you google for "www2" or "www4" you will get plenty of hits too.

I'm convinced many sites do this: for example; I;m usually routed to www1.google.com, however, web browsers are directed to ignore it. If you ping it, it will reveal the servers and how you are routed. For those that want to know even more try traceroute, (you may need to install it first)

Some websites use different www# to point to different server clusters.

Something like:

www.domain.com = Server Cluster 1 or DC1
www2.domain.com = Server Cluster 2 or DC2
www3.domain.com = Server Cluster 3 or DC3

While there are "better" ways of setting this up each website/company has its own way of handling things. Its no different version of the internet or anything so spectacular.

Note: DC above stands for datacenter or a building designed to house servers.

www3 has nothing to do with speed, Its simply subdomains.
