View Full Version : synaptic dies?

hey guys,

when i run synaptic to install xyz and it requires some other packeges it shows me the friendly window saying " ineed this and that. is that ok?" but as soon as i click either cancel or ok, synaptic just dies.

it doesnt print any output to a terminal or anything.

has anyone similar problems? what am i supposed to do?

If your question is, "how can I update packages now?" I would suggest using aptitude. If your question is "What do I do about synaptic", I can't help you--I don't use it.

I would suggest using aptitude.

I like it. I just wish there was a category to the effect of "Security Updates."

If you're running warty, all updates should be security updates (unless you also have other repositories in your sources.list). Security updates also seem to have ubuntu in their name--but maybe that's just for all ubuntu specific changes made to a debian package. If you're really curious, later versions of aptitude (not warty, unfortunately) have aptitude changelog <pkg name> from the command line as well as the command 'C' in the curses GUI.
