I was wondering, I have 10.04 beta1 on my laptop, and a couple of days ago, it started Update Manager. Should that work properly in a beta version?

Yes it does, and if you keep updating it will get you to the final release.
Hope you have a fast internet connection as there are a lot of updates between Beta 1 and todays updates.

With one huge caveat. If it offers to do a partial upgrade, do not accept the offer. :) See here for more:

A prompt for a partial upgrade seems to have occurred less frequently in the Lucid testing cycle than in Karmic - at least in my experience. Because it happened so much in Karmic, and people were less aware of this problem then, update manager was nicknamed "update mangler" during Karmic testing.
Just to emphasise - this won't be an issue once Lucid goes final. It's just something to beware of while it still has testing status.

Reason I asked is that the beta1 I installed, did an upgrade and crashed. It wouldn't boot any more, so I installed beta2 now. I can't properly report it as a bug, because there's no log files or anything.
