I just played zero wing for about 20 minutes, and it felt more like 5, any other good side scrolling shooters that I should try out, maybe r-type? I've never actually played r-type, but i've heard it's good. I just love these games.

Yeah r-type is great. I prefer top-down scrolling shooters though (raiden ftw).

Both R-Type and Gradius (known as "Nemesis" in some countries) are worthwhile game series to try.

Of course if you like that kind of games you should definitely check Noiz2sa, even though it's not 16-bit, or side-scrolling. You'll find it in Ubuntu's repositories. (and all the other games by Kenta Cho are worth testing as well).

Chromium in the repos is good. Top-down, but good.

What repos do you speak of? The ubuntu repos? The debian repos? The archlinux repos?

You are on neither the arch nor debian forums.

The arcade version of Gradius 2 is the most addictive shoot-em-up ever. It feels like a 16-bit game. It's incredibly hard, though, especially the last stage.

IMHO, the NES port of Gradius 2 is overall a better game, though. It's 8-bit, obviously, but it's really good for an 8-bit game. (The weapons are slightly better, which generally makes things more fun. The music is almost universally better. And the rotating options are so cool!)
