View Full Version : [ubuntu] Will my changes to Live USB 10.04 stay when I install to hard disk?

Hello,

I'm using a Ubuntu 10.04 Beta 2 from a Live USB. I'll install from here onto the hard disk once I've checked everything works OK.

I've installed extra packages, changed settings, tweaked the desktop panels, added Firefox extensions, and generally customised things to suit me. Will my changes be installed to hard disk when I do the installation? Will I have to re-apply them? Is there a way to bring them from the Live USB into my hard disk installation?

Thanks!

Hello,

I did not test it with the 10.04 but for the older versions I'm almost sure the settings are not kept. You will have a standard install. What you can do is to copy your home directory from the USB key to the HDD. This will transfer lots of your customizations, but not the extra packages. You will have to reinstall those packages after the fresh install.

Best regards,

Thankyou! You've saved me from spending my time configuring this Live USB version.
