In a previous upgrade I remember choosing an option for the Ubuntu installer to save files from a previous Ubuntu install for me and then recover them later after the fresh install Ubuntu was up and running. Well, it didn't work. Nothing was migrated over.

Is this possible? I'm about to do a fresh install of Lucid and wanted to know the easiest way to backup files now for recovery in my new install.

Thanks in advance. I would say I'm probably b/w Novice and Intermediate when it comes to ubuntu and linux. I've been using Ubuntu since Breezy.

I have attached the instructions I use for my regular back ups. They include the links to the origin of the information. You will need to alter to suit your system.
