i had 10.4 working with some problems so was planning to just plug in a usb boot drive and reinstall with format;
someone on here told me to partition and format before i reinstall, but now i cant get into the OS at all;
i just get a blinking cursor at top left of screen after splash;
when i use the usb, i can choose language, then i have the install options;
i tried safe mode type option and free software only option, also live option and reinstall;
if i choose live, it reboots and i get the cursor;
if i choose install it reboots and i get the cursor;
if i dont use the usb and just try to boot from HD, i get the cursor;
i reformatted and created the usb multiple times;
i have a backtrack distro on another usb that i can boot into fine, but i am not familiar with what tools are available;
i havent used backtrack much, so i dont know if this is normal, but it just loads a command line at root;
can i format the HD from backtrack on usb?
