Someday I saw a netbook with more than one desktop. Switching between the desktops was vizualized with a 3d-cube. Looks cool! ;)

Which component of a desktop environment take care of this behaviour?

Which desktop environment with ubuntu can realizie it?

It is super-cool! It takes a fast CPU and lots of system and video memory, though. If you're running Netbook Remix, ie on a netbook, it's probably not powerful enough, unless it has an Ion CPU and nvidia graphics, like the HP Mini 311.

The program is called "compiz." And you enable it by going to: System > Preferences > Appearance and clicking on the "Visual Effects" tab. Also check in Synaptic to make sure compiz is installed. When it is, compiz settings are available in System > Preferences > CompizSettings. That's where you can turn on cube effects, drip water on your desktop, and do all that other neat stuff.

I saw it on a netbook and it worked realy smooth with 3 desktops minium. I will install and test it on my Samsung N220 with AtomN450 and report here. ;)
