I have an old Compaq DeskPro that I want to install Ubuntu 9.10 on. Unfortunately, the system isn't CD-ROM bootable, so I can't install from the disk. (I've looked for a BIOS upgrade that will fix the problem, but haven't found one yet. The CD-ROMS are recognized, I just can't boot from them.) Does anyone know if there is a way to install Ubuntu without using a CD-ROM?

Of course if anyone knows a way to make these CD-ROMs bootable, I'd settle for that!

Thanks,
Peter V.

You need to go into the BIOS and select the CD drive as the first drive to search for.

Make sure you're bios isn't locked too. opening it wrong could pretty much trip the strange security on those.
