I used Docky for a good while and I liked it a lot, but in the end I came to feel it was limiting me, by making me forget all the apps I have that weren't sitting in the dock!

Now I've gone down a different route and use Arch with Openbox and Gnome-Do - the combination of Openbox's right click apps menu and Gnome-Do's fast search and launching of apps is unbeatable for me. My workflow has never been as fluid as it is now. Less is truly more.

I use and a netbook and the panel is best for me. It is the least intrusive on my small screen.

I use a panel and a dock like macosx yeah cause I find it more functional like that.

Experimenting with Cairo (No Open GL) it's very stable for me , but I'm not sure if I like any of the docks that I have seen .:confused:

I just use the regular Gnome panels. I just looked into DockBarX and I have to say it looks awesome. I will have to give it a try.

Default e17 panel with a menu button, pager, taskbar, systray, clock and weather applet. I have a 17" 4:3 screen, otherwise I'd use a dock I think. Now I have most windows maximized so a dock is neither good for eyecandy nor very practical.

listen to this guys , imagine the panel in the bottom that has a mid point button once its pressed a dock appears in a nice GUI interface coming out from that button and showing it like mac os x once u open an app , it stays their for about timelength depending on user , or it disappears . and have a mouse gesture as in mouse4 to make it appear again , this will make people both happy , as for us we know the dock is good and useful , and to have it with you for the sake of your favorite applications will beneficial , even if you have them on ur desktop sometimes u dont want to minimize ur app or u want to open multiple things quickly so , this idea of a brainstorm is good and relevant , button in the middle or a mouse gesture , hidden form is no good , we need it to act as a screenlet but more accurate.

I love AWN! Simple and intuitive to use, and does moest tricks I want it to without having to go through screens of options I do not understand.

I tried Docky, but it just didn't float my boat. I found it too difficult to adjust to my needs, and it was just too Mac OSX for me. I'm not too fond of the zoom function, give me the cute squish effect of AWN!. Sometimes I found it too easy to configure (in other words, I sometimes found myself changing the layout unintentionally).

I'm not saying there is no more room for AWN improvement Since I use gnomenu I must admit I would love gnomenu to be an applet in the standard applets. The standard menu like applets are too limited for me. AWN could learn from Docky as far as in-bar-expansion goes. They did integrate it to some extent, for the mediaplayer, and places applets amongst others, but it would be great if they did this for all plugins.

i have an old dell 2.2GHz cpu,
cant use compiz or anything like that on it.
but I can use AWN, and it works great, and is very stable.

pretty sweet for no 3d or visual effects enabled.

but I cant use any of that fancy 'eye candy' stuff, and this works really niice.
has some sweet effects and things to tweak to.

I used to don't like docks, but I've been trying AWN and I actually like it.
I think it caused some minor conflicts thought...

I like Cairo Dock.

Docky is good. It even have a panel mode which acts like the bottom panel, assigning icons to all open windows. I really like this feature. It's a space saver in the panel if you have a lot of open windows.

GLX Dock , it works well and it's easy to customize icons . If I have problems I try something else .

I bar at the bottom. On my work computer this is the Xfce panel, and on my laptop it's Awn. Awn is a good panel replacement because, unlike Docky, it has a main menu and notification area

Edit : by the way it's non-sense to put Docky out of the "Dock" category ...
