As a first-time and therefore timid ubuntu user, I began with Hardy Heron, and decided to stick with the LTS releases. As such, the release of Lucid later this month will be my first full OS upgrading experience with ubuntu. I was wondering if any more advanced users out there had any advice for making this upgrade as painless as possible. What essential things should I be sure to back-up? In theory, will this be as easy as the minor kernel patches I've seen before (i.e., 1. click dumbly on synaptic's "install" button, 2. 3. Profit!)?
