USE THE ALTERNATE INSTALL CD IF YOU CONFRONT THE SAME PROBLEM.

My problem is that the Ubuntu installer oddly quits -- it won't even start -- when I try to run the installer. As I've selected the language and try choose either installation or 'trying without installation', the machine hangs for a while and reboots. A USB pendrive made with Unetbootin does the same thing after I choose the 'Default' boot-option in the bootloader. My mobo is Asus M4A785TD-V Evo, if that's any help.
E: So I've tried with both Lucid and Karmic (64-bit)

I'm also having trouble installing on a similar mobo, M4A78T-E. Are you getting the same errors? See this thread: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1449203

I'm not sure whether I'm getting the same errors as wactuary but at least Lucid reported something about ureadahead terminating.
(Karmic didn't spam me with anything, it just quit.)
E: I've never had an install fail before so this is quite surprising. Even when I tried to disable ACPI (and APIC) in both the BIOS and the ubuntu installer, it still failed.
