But people view your avatar as ''you'' (almost). For example, up until now I had assumed you were female.

I agree. I assume anyone with a female avatar pic is female, unless that picture is so sexually explicit that no woman would post it, ie, the animated gif of the woman in the bikini jumping and her breasts jiggle.
