So, do you?

I'm 1440x900, and I do not maximize my browser window. Just seems more manageable when the window doesn't take up the whole screen. I like being able to see at least a bit of desktop behind my windows, if possible.

I also have it change workspaces when I scroll with the mouse over the desktop, so I feel like it gives me quicker access to the other workspaces. Unfortunately, I find myself accidentally changing workspaces from time to time.

Edit: added a poll.

I'm at 1400 x 1050 (Any other resolution on my ThinkPad will have this nasty line on the right side of the screen, unless I turn off HV Expansion, but turning off HV Expansion causes plymouth not to run.)

I have my browser window maximized no matter what.

1280x960 normally ,and yes, my browser is maximised. (my monitor goes to 1920x1440 but I never use that settings...1600x1200 is a high as I go)

And I pretty much keep mine maximised all the time, sometimes even run it in full-screen mode, I spend the majority of the time using it, so it just makes sense to have it in full view.

My screens native resolution is 1680x1050 but my new Nvidia card insists on a 1280x960 compromise.
If I'm not running my browser maximised then it will just be off the right side enough to see the conky display, plus I run it zoomed as I sit about 2.5m (approx 8ft) back from the screen

I maximize the height but maybe only about 2/3 of the width. It's just too hard to read text if it's much more than 80 characters wide. Previous monitor was 1280x1024 and then I maximized everything.

1440x1050 on my laptop, 1440x900 on my external monitor. I never maximize windows at all. I widen them out but leave enough space so I can still see the desktop and/or other windows behind it. Really don't know why though, just sort of a quirky kind of thing.

1920x1080.

Feels like a waste of screen space to maximize it, so I don't.

I use a variety of screens depending on which computer I'm in front of (My EEE 701 has a tiny 7inch 800 by 600 screen) The newer ones have wide screens that are not good for web browsing because most web pages are in the portrait format and are not wide screen friendly.
I have often considered setting up my home desktop which has a 22inch 1680 by 1050 screen with a second one (22 inch or bigger) and positioning it sideways to use for web browsing and word processing.
It is on my wish list and will happen when I revamp the room with a bigger desk. Donations greatly appreciated.

Mines 1600x900 and I agree with the rest of your statement. I don't really know why, but I NEED to see desktop a little. Maybe just because I feel I can "get to it" if need be (aka frozen browser or something) :)

I have 1440x900 on my desktop and I do not maximize. I leave just enough room for two pidgin windows and conky to show.

On my laptop (13.1"), I maximize everything.

1440x900 on my Ubuntu laptop. I don't maximize but my friend always does. (Actually, it's not that big of a deal)

1920x1080 on my non-Ubuntu desktop which I also don't maximize.

When I was using Fluxbox the taskbar was hidden, so Firefox was on fullscreen even. Now with KDE and Chromium there is a thin taskbar, but Chromium is still maximized.

I have a separate desktop just for the browser and it stays there maximized.

2560*1600 + 1600*1200 here.

If I'm doing some serious research, I'll usually F11 firefox on the smaller screen, while working on the rest of applications (ie LyX, OOo, octave, IDEs...) on my primary screen. Otherwise, it shares the primary screen with evolution, irssi, gwibber, pidgin and/or anything else I might need at the moment.

On Windows Yes, At 1280x800 I just flip 3D to see whats going on or use <Super>,<number> to change window meh :P

On Ubuntu I don't maximize anything except Google Chrome really. Oh and Synaptic is Maximized you really don't know how small 1280x800 is for me. So I change font to 8pt.

Interesting question. I was wondering about this for some time now.

I don't like to see other windows behind the one I'm working on. It is kind of distracting, so I always maximize.

I recently switched from a 1024x768 to a 1600x900 monitor and having some trouble adjusting myself to the new screen proportion. The widescreen resolution works great when I need to use dolphin split view or when I'm comparing 3 files with meld or when opening Brief feed reader on Firefox with the sidebar open. Nevertheless, sometimes I feel the content on the left side of the screen is too far away. I use a lot of extensions in the sidebar, so pages are usually displayed more like a 4:3 display, but sometimes it just feels weird.

Yes, I maximize everything I can because this is on a 12" screen. It's alright for basic stuff, but after a while the small screen gets tiresome.

This should have been a poll. I think I just p'ed someone off about this, this week. My screen resolution is 1280x1024, and like a lot of people on this thread, I keep my height maximized but my width probably less than 1000px. This made someone's announcement look less than smooth b/c the graphics on either side of the header didn't stay on one line, so the header was obviously designed for browsers that are about 1100px or more wide. I said, if she abbreviated the words, then the design would work for "common" people, but I meant the majority of end users. Anyway, she ignored me when I mentioned GVim yesterday. I hope she's not too mad.

two 2048x1152 (http://jack.kingbrick.co.uk/blog/wide-desktop.png) screens! I stretched the browser across 4000px wide once just because I could. Very impracticable- so no, I don't tend to maximise my windows.

Hello All

1280 by 1024 17 inch panel, and I run Firefox maximized and without window decorations under Openbox.

I use ctrl-H to switch the history bar on and off. I also have the Zotero referencing plug in popping up the bottom half of the screen when I'm doing Proper Work.
