I want to customize my Windows xp Start button.
I want to turn it into an orb like the one on vista/7. However I dont want to install any themes and such. I want something very light and easy. Any ideas btw?

Yeah, actually, look up something called "uxthemer" or "uxtheme.dll" changer.
It's a place to start, or to find a better forum, anyway.
Don't be surprised if Ubuntu users don't care about a windows problem, though.

Because this is the "off topic" section of the forum, for any tech related questions or discussion. No need to be so hostile...

Then why people post about the iPad on a Linux forum?

I'm sure the iPad can be hacked to run Linux :| Just a matter of time.

I would be careful installing any thing like that. God only knows what bits are hidden in there.

I used to do that... Made the Start button say Tim's, and the mouse over say It's running damn it!!!

Do a google search for "xp tweak".
Just find the Start button image and change it to the win7 one renaming the win7 one to the name the xp one has.

Afaik, there's no other method to customize that button, short of installing third party themes. That or you learn to create your own theme. Hmm.

I've had problems with theme patchers in the past so I don't use them, but something like ObjectDock might work.

How does that work, exactly? When did it become illegal to install an alternate OS on a piece of hardware you own?

According to Apple's EULA :you may not use third party OS or jail breaking etc.
Most of you here follow whatever the EULA says (or else you dont use it)
Therefore, you (or anyone else) are/is committing a crime against the EULA nuff said. :P:)

Bollocks. Apple's EULA says you may not use their OS on unauthorized hardware. They have no authority to stop you from putting a different OS on your own hardware (hardware isn't licensed). In the cases of their desktop computers and laptops, they even supply a bootloader (BootCamp (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Boot_Camp_%28software%29)) so you can do just that.

Additionally, you can't commit "a crime against the EULA" because EULA != Law.
