Hey all!

I'm trying to set up a simple computer that will be used to run an IRC bot only. All it needs is an active internet connection, some processing power and for Ubuntu 9.10 to install correctly.

I've got all of those BUT the working install

When I run the installer, I have to use Safe Graphics Mode to be able to get it through the setup screens (not much RAM). Everything is great, except for that when it starts up the partition manager during the install, it says it can't create a ext4 file system ](*,)

Any ideas?

Oh, also, it says it has a problem with creating 2 other partitions and that Linux won't be able to detect changes until a restart. I can't remember exactly what it was, but if its important, I'll turn on the comp. and copy it down for you guys.

I'm working on getting the actual specs now.

Thanks so much!

If you donīt have enough ram maybe you can try Xubuntu. (http://www.xubuntu.org/get)Even lighter that that is minimal CD (https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Installation/MinimalCD) witch you can customize as described here. (https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Installation/LowMemorySystems)

Yeah, I've got an Intel Celeron 2.00Ghz processor, Intel 82845Ggraphics card and 128mb of RAM.

It currently has Windows XP Professional on it and it runs SLOW. If I stop explorer.exe and just have a web browser running, its okay, but still not quite how I'd like haha.

So, could 9.10 be installed and run fast (or fastish) on this machine? Or should I go with an older version?

You can install 9.10 but not GNOME or KDE because they are ram consuming. It is better idea to install Xubuntu or maybe install just minimal and then build with maybe LXDE.I think LXDE is even lighter then Xubuntu.Other things you can do is install Abiword instead of Open Office and so on...
