View Full Version : Selectively Customized UNR??

I have a netbook and will possibly be in a part of the World with intermittent Internet at best. I have enjoyed full desktop environments so far but as I have been running a very recent KDE 4.4 - I love their ideas for both plasma and their netbook version. (http://www.kde.org/workspaces/plasmanetbook/ )

I am planning on reinstalling ubuntu on this netbook as the lack of consistent Internet connection will mean more infrequent updates which means breakage :( but ubuntu seems to continue to update so well consistently even if only infrequently do so as a user.

What I hope to have on my netbook is:

No panels
No window decorations (full screen apps)
Use Compiz (it has work well for me so far) - this is for cube, scale, ring-switcher more than anything
gnome-do in central position on desktop if I can
semantic search if possible
A menu system (of some sort)
I don't know if I want desktop icons or not - if I do, I want it to be my home directory not a Desktop directory

I think this is more than likely possible but slightly above my geek meeter :)

It looks like I want to use some things from UNR:

Maximus
desktop switcher - to go back to a normal gnome setup
+/- window picker applet - this looks like I can't use it but I don't know

Why I don't want to use simply UNR:

I don't like how the menu is setup - I want it to be an option but I usually like to type in like gnome-do
I have more experience customizing colors with straight gnome
Guess I don't have a lot of reasons :)

Any words of wisdom, caution, or best ... direction?

Thanks,
Matt
