How are you trying to install, Live CD, Unetbootin?
First thing I would recommend is to check the MD5SUM of your downloaded iso file.
Bad iso downloads are common.

Thanks, I've tried to do internet install through windows and had problems other than not booting, Downloaded & burned ISO and did clean whole disk install. Started to have boot problems (not finding UUID) edit grub config several times per different instructions and finally could boot.Several crash reports that couldn't be sent. couldn't update repository. Found several manual attempts to no avail. Finally hooked up straight to cable modem (removed router) and updated with no problems (sweet), but when update called for reboot i've never been able to boot from hard drive. Repeated what I thought worked before with same results.(can't find UUID) Reloaded windows 98SE and all apears to work. Removed Grub2 and grup-pc and grub common until it said they didn't exist. reformated drive reloaded win98se and worked again. downloaded iso.img again checked md5sum and it failed, down loaded dvd .iso and it failed md5sum. downloade cd ver again and it passed. rechecked burn and it passed. Run live and worked better than had before but did clean install and back to no such device (with UUID number). So thanks for pointing me in that direction but still am needing help.
