Hey!

I drew a painted a silly creature, based on 'bunchies' (a citrus green horse-like thing) and various crazy japanese creatures. Maybe you can use it as a mascot... or not. I noticed BSD has a devil, or a blowfish, and linux has the penguin, but you don't seem to have anything.
(I'm still a Windows user so I don't fully understand the kernel/distro/windows interface thing, maybe a mascot isn't needed)

Anyways, here's the pics. I noticed no one IMG linked images so I'm not going to do that either.

My 'ubunchie' is of course a play on the word ubuntu and bunchie. Maybe it's a subspecies...


The original painting is 1600*1200, I can give you a psd/tif. Does this forum has an upload function? I'm on a friend's server so I don't wanna hump his bandwidth too much.

Oops, I should've checked, here's an attached jpeg, 12/12, tif wasn't allowed.
It didn't get that big cuz of the fuzzy flat areas.

(I'm not sure how Bunchie's daddy feel about Bunchie derived artwork.)

I think Ubuntu has its own 'mascot' as the three people in a circle? The abstract logo that Ubunutu uses is excellent and highly creative and unique.

The whole Ubunchie concept or whatever is actually a really good idea. I like the idea of having a mascot for Ubuntu Linux.

Arne, looks like you mastered your wacom skills. That image is excellent! I like the fact that large portions are blurry, since that makes it very suitable for using as a background without obscuring the screen. Your name sounds Danish?

I'm thinking of getting a laptop and run some sort of linux on it. It seems there's a sourceforge project for using a wacom tablet on linux. Not sure how well Gimp works with my technique though. I mostly use basic brushes so maybe it'll be okay.


I think it'd be great if Ububtu had a mascot too. It could be used as a 'help wizard' and stuff. Maybe the one I did isn't that suitable, but I didn't want to do something regular and boring, like most mascots are an animal with a colored shirt or cap. I wanted something with slightly unfamiliar (weird) with an ambivalent attitude. The ubunchie might actually eat people... but in a happy, funny and cheerful way. Sort of a bit like Max and Domokun in terms of personality.

I think I should try something less... mono detailed.

The Gant or Umicon icons would go great with this. Some are beautiful, some a little creepy. Some a little of both as this wallpaper seems to be. That background is great, but I don't know if I'd want that thing looking at me all the time either. I like it, it's just... a little... discomforting

If you're refering to the Gant icons there is already a Gant Gnome icon theme (and KDE I think). I think its in Deviantart somewhere.

Yeah, I managed to pull them all down from deviantart but they are all .ico files and even though I have a gdesklets starter bar using them, I am not entirely sure on how to use them as my regular theme. I guess a little reading is in order. I typically just download the themes and use them as I go.

I meant there's an already made for Gnome set of png's Gant icon theme, so you don't have to use those ico's or even rename them. Just drop the folder into your .icons folder.

Your Ubunchie is cool. You should start up a net-toon using Ubunchie and Tux and any other relevant mascots (BSD Daemon etc).
