Here (http://www.micahcarrick.com/09-29-2007/gedit-html-editor.html) is a good article that may help you use Gedit for web development. There are other programs that you may find useful, but I don't have experience with them. I am sure others can comment on them.

I have heard good things about Kompozer, but I personally just use Kate. I don't need all the frills of a WYSIWYG (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/WYSIWYG) editor.
