View Full Version : [ubuntu] APM Err -- Ubuntu Freezes on Shutdown

Hi everyone,

I've been happily running 9.04 since it came out last year. Yesterday I routinely downloaded and applied the UPDATE MANAGER updates. Since then, whenever I try to shutdown, my system freezes while displaying these error messages --

/dev/sda1
"setting Advanced Power Management level to 0xfe (254)"

/dev/sdb1
"setting Advanced Power Management level to 0xfe (254)"

Since the system freezes I am forced to physically turn off the computer using the Power Button. Ubuntu then forces me to do a disk check upon startup (fsck), the kind of disk check you have to perform at the command line. This renders my current OS install of little practical use.

My system is a Dell L933R Pentium III (933 mhz/ 512M / 40 + 60 g).

Thank you for your help.

No replies on this one? I hear you... I'm at a loss too!

I've decided to just upgrade to 10.04 when it comes out and scrap this instance. As long as 10.04 runs on my old 933mhz/512m/100g machine I should be fine.

As always, thanks to the Ubuntu community for a great product.
