Hello,

I wasn't sure where to start this thread so please don't yell at me if I have posted this in the wrong category. And now, the problem...

I recently installed Ubuntu 10.04 Beta 1 and I was pleasantly surprised by its stability, and the new themes are pretty epic as well, BUT after installing the Compiz Config Settings Manager (CCSM), I went to enable the compiz widget layer and much to my surprise I was unable to find it. At first I thought I was going crazy but when I booted back into 9.10, it was still there.

So WTF happened to the widget layer! Any info would be very much appreciated.

On a side note, the widget layer is not the only thing that has mysteriously disappeared. The interface tab seems to have been removed from Appearance Preferences dialogue box, leaving me with no way to enable icons in the menus.

Are these changes permanent, will the missing features be reinstated, is there a work around!? Any info would be greatly appreciated.

There is a work around. Go to System>Preferences>ScreenSaver>[Power management]>
Set to display brightness.

Totally with you bro. What happen couldn't they leave Widget Layer alone? It's working perfectly fine. I'm guessing they having to much time in their hands. Compiz or whoever build or remove it should have make a poll if it would be better to take down Compiz Widget Layer.

Widget Layer is a freaking useful.
An example would be Diming down so we can read in the dark. So it wouldn't hurt out EYES!!!!
