I am tired of searching the web for this, so I hope somebody can help me.

With some other guys we are creating a songbook for our student union. We will be working with Scribus and plain txt document for the songdata (Chordpro syntax)

Anyway, We have a need for a websystem that helps us working collaborative on a lot of plain txt files. We need to be able to comment on the files, have a discussion forum, but above all, need to be able to see and edit the txtfiles in the browser.

I have checked out a lot of Groupware systems from opensourcecms.com but they are all overloaded with options, plain ugly and not for collaborative working on documents. Also checked out Knowledge Tree, wich is cool, but too inefficient. I think a wiki isn't a good idea, because we need the final plain text files to be easily available for import in Scribus.

Anybody knows of such a collaboration tool? Suggestions are very appreciated! Thanks in advance.

I don't know if there is a reference to http://www.plone.org at opensourcecms.com, but it looks neat. Moreover, it involves a serious server ZOPE. I took and installed it (sofar). Please, try! Comments welcomed.

If you are OK with hosting the tool offsite, you might want to try Writeboard (http://www.writeboard.com). It's a free tool by 37 signals, and does pretty much all you've requested . Better still, it's free.

I'm not in any way affiliated with these guys, but I've used Writeboard for other projects and found it super useful.

Hope this helps!
