Hi!! I am new to ubuntu.. well I have installed ubuntu in my machine 2years back, I keep on updating it.. Now I am using 9.10.. well, now I have decided to learn ubuntu. I want to completely shift from windows to ubuntu, but 1 thing I am still waiting for, application wise net blocking, specially for outgoing connections, I did installed gufw blocking incoming ports, please tell me is there is any way to block outgoing connections. as i want one application to act like a server on my localhost and don't want it to become a server for everyone.. i don't like applications accessing internet without my permission. on windows zonealarm helps me for this..

The only program that will access the internet without prompting you is the Update Manager.

Just disable that if you don't want it checking for updates.

So you want, for example, a web server that only you can access? Having Ufw activated should prevent that.
