Nvidia driver trashed X11

HP dv6716 laptop
GeForce 7150M/nForce 630M
3G memory

At Ubuntu's suggestion I loaded the Nvidia 180 driver.
Rebooted and got the following:

Command Prompt:
Typed sudo startx
and received the following:

Eightteen lines of module loading info.

After load info got the following lines:

Saw signal 11. Server aborting
ddxSigGiveUp: Server aborting
ddxSigGiveUp: Closing log
ddxSigGiveUp: re-raising 11
giving up
xinit: Connection refused (errno 111): unable to connect to X server
xinit: No such process (errno 3): Server error.
xauth: error in locking authority file /home/harry/.Authority

Can some kind soul please help?
