How to remove certain updates from update list

I have updates for latest kernel in update manager list.However i do not wish to update my kernel.

How do i remove those update entries so that i do not have to uncheck it every time?

Note:This applies to many other entries as well like empathy-updates, OO.o-updates etc.

System>administration>synaptic package manager>select package you don´t want to upgrade>package tab>lock version.
