Magnified Screen After login screen

I have finally upgraded to 9.10 and have came a cross a problem that would come a go in 9.04 and that is the screen would be magnified to very large screen after the login screen.

in 9.04 I would just turn the computer off for a few hours and turn it back on and it would be fine. I am assuming that it is something simple.

I can boot to KDE and that screen is fine

I have searched the forums for this but the aren't quite the same symptoms, so sorry if over looked if there is one.

any help would be greatly appreiciated.

Is it really "magnified" or only uses a lower resolution?
Check your resolution and DPI settings.

Well the login screen shows up fine. wouldn't the screen resolution change the login screen as well?

I checked it on 9.04 and it was fine, Although I will double check it on this version.

Another thought came to me I changed in the login screen to boot to KDE and then safe mode Gnome it booted with the right screen sizes or resolutions with both changes.
