DCRAW 8.99 or other RAW converters?

I'm trying to open ARW files from from my Sony A550 which does not seem to work with the old version of DCRAW that is being used, 8.86-1.

The latest version of DCRAW seems to be 8.99. Is there a way I can update DCRAW manually or is there another RAW converter that I can use to open these files? Thank you.

1. download latest dcraw here: http://www.rawness.es/descarga-de-binarios-de-dcraw-para-linux/?lang=en
2. copy/paste the downloaded and extracted dcraw file to /usr/bin/ (e.g. start nautilus as superuser: (execute "gksudo nautilus" in the terminal) and overwrite existing dcraw
