Ubuntu 9.10 & 10.04 hang.

So I've recently repartitioned my desktop to dual boot again and I am having some issues with both ubuntu 9.10 & 10.04. Upon installing 10.04 I can get to the boot menu on the dvd but it hangs at the loading screen after selecting install to hard drive.I managed to get 9.10 installed and was able to login once but it hangs at the white logo loading screen as well now. The only error i've been able to find is an I/O error with sdc which is one of my 1tb drives. I've been able to reinstall windows and gentoo and both run and operate without any issues. Has anyone experienced this issue or have any insight on what I should try next? Im running a core i7 920 with 16gb ddr3 1600 with 2x GTX295's if that helps anyone.

Sometime when the process locks it helps pushing enter, even though no prompt is visible. It is not deep science, but worth a try :-)
