A Couple General Questions

I have a couple general kind of questions that I would appreciate some input on.

1) I'm not a gamer. But I would like to try some Linux games. Not simple flash games like bubble spinner, something a little bigger and more involved. Any suggestions?

2) I would really like to check out what is available in the area of commercial Linux software. Everything from Games to media to productivity software. Any links/comments would be appreciated.

I'm just trying to get a larger idea for what is out there. Thanks.

Urban Terror? That sounds like a must check out! :D

Frozen Bubble and Extreme Tux Racer, both are in the repositories.

To install Urban Terror, download the zip at their page. It even has a 64-bit executable. Other than that I like Frozen Bubble and have heard good things about Nexuiz. Wesnoth is one of the most professional looking games I have seen on Linux.

It all depends on what you like.
I personally am very interested in PlaneShift (http://www.planeshift.it/) but I still have to install it... [following the progress of the program atm]

As far as media is concerned, you might want to look into plugins for The Gimp, there are loads out there, and a lot of them are good fun, and useful.

I personally suggest tremulous.

The one in the ubuntu repos is old, so dl it at.

World of Goo is one of the best Linux games, it's also commercial so that's two birds with one stone for you.

Flightgear (http://www.flightgear.org),Stepmania (http://www.stepmania.com), Nexuiz (http://www.alientrap.org/nexuiz/). Note: Both Flightgear and Stepmania have outdated versions in the repositories, so download and install them by following instructions on their sites.

Openarena is alright. I belive it is based on Quake 3 arena.

Quake Live works on Linux, it works really well.

You might want to try Scorched Earth and Sauerbraten; both have pretty good graphics.
