Swiftfox is a version of Firefox optimised for AMD processors. It improves rendering time slightly making the browser feel faster.

it is mighty fast, as in text browser fast.

it is mighty fast, as in text browser fast.
dillo is in that middle ground between epiphany and lynx....and most of the time, I go with epiphany. Except when I need text-browser fast (like quickly looking up song lyrics without dealing with graphics....or finding chords for a song). Then I use lynx, from the tty. HarDCore.

Links2 to is as fast as Dillo but much better at rendering pages.
Command:
$links2 -g
Try to open the site www.unexplained-mysteries.com in Dillo and compare it with this screenshot of links2:

dillo opened the page instantly while links2 took a split second longer to lay the page out better (same info - meh). i was very excited about links2 when i first started using it. i wanted it to handle ssl the way elinks does and went through quite a bit of work to get it to do so. ultimately, i was dissapointed. also, i belong to quite a few forums and i hate links2's handling of replies. that said, links2 is pretty great. very fast.

I like links2 -g.. dillo.. hmm haven't used that for a while... mine looks just as ugly as everybody elses.. if it used gtk2 I might be happier.. must....wash....eyes...

I'd like to find some way to get more sites properly formatted. The first window is a screenshot from the Dillo site and the one below is the window I'm seeing. Anyone know what could be wrong?

I'd love to play around with a tabbed, antialiased version of Dillo, but am currently having quite a time trying to figure all this dependency business out. Ok, so I alienned the patched Dillo .rpm from that site (thanks Sheinar), tried to install it but got this message

sudo dpkg -i dillo-i18n-misc_0.8.5.20060105-2_i386.deb

dpkg: error processing dillo-i18n-misc_0.8.5.20060105-2_i386.deb (--install):

dpkg-deb: subprocess paste killed by signal (Broken pipe)
Errors were encountered while processing:
dillo-i18n-misc_0.8.5.20060105-2_i386.deb

...so I tried to remove Dillo. Now, this message:

sudo apt-get remove dillo

You might want to run `apt-get -f install' to correct these:

libxrender-dev: Depends: render-dev (> 1:0.9) but it is not going to be installed
E: Unmet dependencies. Try 'apt-get -f install' with no packages (or specify a solution).

Now I need to install the render-dev package:

So I guess my question is, is it safe to uninstall x11proto-render-dev? I have no idea if this is an important system file or not. Forgive me if I'm being too much of a lunkhead about all this. This is my first cup of Ubuntu...

i hate to guess, ocelot, but maybe you can get rid of that cache file and cut down on some of your mess there.

ok, so I think I found an answer to my own question. It is probably not a good idea to uninstall x11proto-render-dev. Once I marked it for removal in Synaptic, a big list of libraries and other packages popped up that would be removed as well. I may just see if I can take out the /usr/bin/dillo file in that .deb package and install it. Fuscia, are you running the antialiased, tabbed version of Dillo? If so, do you have the aforementioned x11proto-render-dev package installed?

yes, i'm using the tabbed, anti-aliased, ssl version of dillo and it's awesome. and yes, that package is installed (it's only 81.9kb).

Ok, I ended up testing qemu and damn small linux 2.3 for this dillo cap! :)

http://img85.imageshack.us/img85/3298/screenshotqemu6qi.th.png (http://img85.imageshack.us/my.php?image=screenshotqemu6qi.png)

Anyway, for those interested in trying it,

sudo apt-get install qemu

Download a live cd, I recommend damn small linux (since it's so damn small)

http://www.damnsmalllinux.org/

The ubuntu live cd (and regular cd work as well.)

Here is a simple command, no hard drive set, limited it to using 256mb,

qemu -cdrom dsl-2.3.iso -boot d -m 256 -localtime

:)

I really don't see what everyone sees in dillo.

If you are running a lightweight system or you don't have many resources then it's totally a good choice. But when I see some of you guys running a compositor and desklets why not just use a web browsers that can... you know render pages correctly and has a few of the features that make browsing the internet less painfull.](*,)

I split his post off to a new thread.

Let's close this one too, to prevent further necromancy. Good grief, I can remember when this thread was first started!

And who is this fuscia person? :|
